Fresh Repress! : Deadly Dragon Sound // Park Heights Repress Series ~ Part 4!

Park Heights / Deadly Dragon Sound Link Up Pt. 4! What a year it has been -- nuff massive titles! For 2011 we start with the massive Roman Stewart 2sider - Black me Black b/w Modellers. These two tunes were previously only available on Roman's killer (and HARD HARD HARD to find) LP - RULING & CONTROLLING that he cut for Park Height's other label I-95 back in the 80s. Black We Black takes on Botha and all racists with some heavy duty minor key DREAD menace that touches on the classic Heathen lyrics! Modellers is a Brooklyn anthem calling out all the massive and crew who come TRASH & READY each and every night!

One of the most coveted pieces of Park Heights' music the Sleepy Wonder 2 sider - Big In Body / Maga Man. These two tunes exemplify Brooklyn Digital inna DJ style...Heavy Duty, rolling bass lines and a fast chat style that sounds as nimble and rhythmatic as genius drum solo...Simply put Sleepy Wonder KILLS on this classic attack on all child molesters...and not just Kills but kills in the first seconds so this tune announces itself as SERIOUS BIDNESS!!! And not to let the A-side overshadow things, Sleepy comes just as correct on the ruff lick of an "almost" Mud Up. Two Dangerous Tune inna one music! These were originally released on a I-95 12" and this represents the first time they are on a 7".

The Killer 2 sider Sluggy Ranks - Stamma Style / Sleepy Wonder - 88 Champion! Yeesssss....These two tunes were originally released together on a I-95 12" and this represents the first time they are on a 7". Sluggy and Sleepy! Bwoy, two heartical denizens of the Brookylyn digital underground come together were two BLAZING sides over a classic bass licked Park Heights riddim. Singjay + the fast chat = MASSIVE CHUNE!!!

Deadly Dragon Sound // Park Heights Repress Series ~ Part I‏

Delroy Francis @ Deadly Dragon

Park Heights Record Store

Park Heights! Reissues!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let us now bow our heads and give a three fisted Brap Brap Brap gun
salute to the golden years of New York City Reggae!!!!!

There was a time in the 80s and 90s when New York City could stand head to head with Kingston as the hottest place for dancehall music....clubs like Q Club, Reggae Lounge, Love People, Biltmore Ballroom ran things at night while during the day Utica Avenue, Fulton and Church was like MUSIC CENTRAL with tons of record stores and labels booming up the big tunes for the people. New York had its own sound and its own artists, and one of the finest spots was the store called PARK HEIGHTS ran by Delroy Francis and his wife Flavia. The two of them ran one of the hottest stores and from early on began producing a slew of unique records both Roots, Digital and dancehall. Delroy had his finger on the pulse of the new digital language of the mid-eighties and combined that heavy production with some of the best underground singers and DJs who were then living in Brooklyn.

Well we are proud to introduce our first set in what will be a long series of Reissues done in collaboration with Delroy Francis and his Park Heights label. These tunes come directly from the original master tapes and were pressed right here in New York in lovely, high quality vinyl!

Sleepy Wonder & Jango - Fade Away 7"
http://www.deadlydragonsound.com/v3_records_info.php?id=19660

Boom! Probably one of Park Heights most famous tunes; this combination tune takes Jr. Byles classic FADE AWAY and flips it inna digital style over a RUFF version of Peenie Peenie -- yes indeed Jango comes with with the singjay style while Sleepy Wonder busts it in pure NYC fast Chat styleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Lilly Melody - Give Me Some Of Your Loving 7"
http://www.deadlydragonsound.com/v3_records_info.php?id=19663

Whewwwwwwww.....I can actually remember the first time I heard this one. Selector JD, my good friend and partner here at Deadly Dragon, dropped this piece of RIDICULOUS digital madness once on me and I was consumed with PURE jealousy!!!! Yes...this ya tune an ICON of great 80s digital. First off, the riddim is a BANGER...heavy, heavy SCREECHY CROSS THE BORDER type thing and then add it to Lilly Melody's enormous vocals which ride on top like a master jockey -- and what you have is the perfect storm of a chune!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't say enough about this tune other than I am more than proud to share this one with alla you!!!!!!!!!!

Nuthead Irie - Tenement Yard 7"
http://www.deadlydragonsound.com/v3_records_info.php?id=19666

Originally released as a 12" on Delroy Francis' CLAY POT label, this tune has been one of the most heavily sought after piece of digital roots from the 80s...achingly heartfelt tune whose sufferers vibe goes head-to-head with a riddim drenched in heavyweight bass and tuff keyboard stabs.

So nuff respect to the great Delroy Francis and all PARK HEIGHTS massive!!!!!!
